Staff Biographies:

  • Christopher Trebus, President

    Graduating from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chris first worked as a chemist out of college before quickly moving fields as a project manager of an environmental consulting firm. Here he learned the basis of the environmental field and realized the value of a skillful contracting firm that could perform the work being required in this growing industry. This led Chris to venture on his own to start Independence Constructors, Inc. (ICI) in 1988. The first few years were spent removing and disposing of impacted soils from sites all over New Jersey. As the industry and company grew, so did Chris. With a work ethic that is matched by few, he has developed ICI into one of the State’s leading companies in the business. Chris leads by example and receives certifications on all of the latest equipment in the industry. Constantly studying, analyzing, and developing new techniques to help his employees be safe, efficient, and knowledgeable with every aspect of the business, is what has made Chris the owner of such a successful business.

  • Michael Chen, Vice President

    With a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Planning & Design from Rutgers University/ Cook College, Mike started out in the environmental consulting field before realizing that his need for “hands on” led him to Independence Constructors, Inc. (ICI) in the Spring of 1999. Starting from the ground up, Mike worked for the first few years as a laborer while quickly learning the industry. Late in 2003, Mike took over the role of job foreman and soon the added role of associate sales representative in the following year. Certified in all of the industry’s most utilized equipment, Mike has been performing installation and maintenance on fueling systems for over 14 years. With every job and industry certification he received, Mike quickly made himself standout with both clients and the owner of Independence. He was made partner in the spring of 2008. Mike is now performing full time sales as well as project manager and daily business operations roles with ICI. With a passion for the outdoors and an inquisitive nature, Mike enjoys being in the field daily and helping clients to determine how ICI can help resolve any issues they may have.

  • Adam Borchin, Foreman/Lead Technician

    Licensed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in Underground Storage Tank Installation and Closure and with over 10 years of experience in both the environmental consulting and environmental construction fields, Adam Borchin utilizes these certifications and experience as the project foreman at Independence Constructors, Inc. (ICI). A certified technician in some of the industry’s leading manufacturers of tank monitoring and leak detection systems, including Veeder Root, Incon and Omntec , Adam is also ICI’s head technician for troubleshooting, repairs and installation of these systems. With a Bachelors of Science degree from Rutgers University/ Cook College in the field of Environmental Science, Health and Safety training including OSHA 40hour Hazwoper and Confined Space Entry, and numerous training certifications ranging from Xerxes Fiberglass Tanks to Omega Flex Double Trac piping, Adam is well equipped to positively impact the success of any project for our clients. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Adam enjoys returning to his alma mater to support the Rutgers Football program as a season ticket holder and loyal fan.
